Artist Interviews

In this interview, Mye De Leon is back for a second time! In this lesson she’s showing us how to do cuuuurved lettering, two ways!

Check out the video, and then scroll down for my key takeaways and a list of all the resources we mentioned!

IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN:

  • How to use a compass to draw your guides
  • Why you should use a “curve path”
  • How to plan your sketch
  • Why you should draw a “skeleton” first
  • How to use your drawn letters as a point of reference
  • AND MORE

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS LESSON:

  1. Always start on the middle part of the word and draw your letters outwards. This will help you evenly distribute the letters and spacing!
  2. Despite the curve of the word, the stem of the letter stays upright!
  3. Curved letters (such as U and O) have to slightly “overshoot” the baseline.
  4. Fix an issue or mistake as soon as you see it! The earlier you catch the issue, the better (and the less re-work you will have to do later!)

TOOLS USED IN THIS VIDEO:

  • Compass
  • Pencil
  • Paper
  • Ruler

RESOURCES WE MENTIONED:

  • Find Mye on Instagram at @myedeleon and check out her website!
  • Watch Mye’s first Artist Interview, where she talks about embellishing letters, here!
  • Sign up for Mye’s online course, Mastering Hand Lettering! (That’s an affiliate link, but I know her program is amazing!)
