Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions, and I have answers (hopefully) 😉 Check below for the answers to some of my most frequently-asked Q’s.

General Questions

I have a full 50 page supplies guide that has all of my supplies recommendations (including direct links to purchase them all!) right here.

Great question! I love to connect with my calligra-friends:
I post new videos on my YouTube channel weekly on Fridays. Make sure to subscribe to my channel to get alerts about the next video!
Unfortunately, I am not able to do critiques via email or DM (direct messages) due to the volume of enrolled students and messages I receive daily.

A great way to get feedback and critique is to post in either my free Facebook community, The Happy Ever Crafters, or the private communities that come with my paid products.
You can sign up for a weekly newsletter & get a list of my favourite supplies right here.

ShowMeYourDrills Questions

ShowMeYourDrills is a completely free 4-week basic strokes calligraphy course taught by yours truly. 🙂 During our 4 weeks together, you’ll learn the foundations of calligraphy, so you can move on to learning how to write letters and eventually words!

You can learn more about ShowMeYourDrills and sign up for the next semester right here.

The entire course is accessible through an online portal that you can access via desktop, tablet, or mobile device.

At the start of the challenge, I’ll share the supplies you need to get started with the calligraphy basics. Each day, I’ll post a new “basic stroke” for you to learn and practice. You can complete the work on your own time at your own pace.

If you’d like feedback, you can post your work in the comments, our private Facebook group, or on Instagram. (Optional!)

Yes! Show Me Your Drills is completely free. If you are looking to learn the basic building blocks of calligraphy, you can join me for 4 weeks of beginner instructions.

Inside the Show Me Your Drills course, you’ll find a guide with the exact materials you need. The major tools are a flexible tip pen (pointed pen, brush pen) and paper (Rhodia, tracing paper, etc.).

No, the lessons are not live. Throughout the first week of Show Me Your Drills, new video tutorials will be posted at 7:00 a.m. ET. The lessons are recorded, so you can watch them and complete the drills whenever works best for you.

Once the 4-week drills challenge ends, there will be more advanced workbooks/courses available for purchase:

  • Minuscule (lowercase) letters
  • Majuscule (uppercase) letters
  • Connections
  • Numbers & Symbols
  • Bouncing & Stylizing
  • Flourishing

These advanced tutorials are 100% optional and you are not required to purchase them.

We will work through these advanced courses together as a group for anyone who purchases them. If you choose to complete all of the advanced courses, the semester will last about six months total.

Yes! You’ll need to enter your name and email here so that you’re enrolled in the most recent semester. Otherwise, you won’t get the current semester’s emails!

While you wait for the next live semester, there are many tutorials and resources on my YouTube channel or you can enroll in the self-study version here.

If you don’t see emails from me in your inbox about the course, check your junk, spam, and promotions folders. Also, do a search of “all inboxes” for “Becca Courtice”. That should turn up any emails. If all else fails, there might be a real issue causing you to not get my emails! Feel free to email hello@thehappyevercrafter.com to sort it out!

The entire course is accessed via Teachable. All of the supplies information, workbooks, tutorial videos, etc. are in your Teachable account.

Sure! Here’s a guide to help! If you still have issues, you can email hello@thehappyevercrafter.com for assistance. 🙂

Nope! Social media is completely optional. Posting in the Facebook groups or on Instagram is an opportunity to share your work and to receive feedback from others, but you’re also able to post to the comments inside the learning portal.

My courses, calligraphy workbooks, and watercolour workbooks are digital— so you purchase it and get an instant download that you can print and work on right away! There is no shipping required.

Indefinitely! You will never lose access to workbooks or courses that you’ve purchased.
There are two formats of this workbook available, sold separately: one for small pens and one for big pens.

The only difference is the size of the traceable sections — slightly smaller for pens with small tips, and slightly larger for pens with big tips. You’ll want to purchase the workbook that fits the pen size you’ll be using.

Examples of “small” pens:

  • Tombow Fudenosuke
  • Pentel Fude Touch

Examples of “big” pens:

  • Tombow Dual Tips
  • Koi Coloring Brushes
  • Pentel Aquash

If you want to learn more about the difference between small pens and big pens, read this!
It totally depends on personal preference. Small pens are generally easier for beginners, but lots of people prefer the big pens! I suggest trying both out to do some drills, first, and see which one you prefer.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

  • If you get a “Email is already in use. Please sign into your account” message, you’re trying to sign up but you already have an account. Instead, scroll down and hit the “log in with school account” or “log in to MyTeachable” button, and log in there.

  • If you get a “invalid email or password” message, you’re probably logging into MyTeachable instead of your “school account” (I know, this is confusing!). Scroll down and hit “Log in with a School Account”, and log in there.

  • If you get an “invalid password” message, you can hit the “Forgot Password” button and reset it.

  • If all else fails, email us and I can help you. For example, if you purchased your workbook with a different email address than the email address you use on Teachable, I’ll need to switch your enrollment on Teachable and delete the duplicate account!
When I print my workbooks for myself, the printing company I use prints them on 11×17 size paper, double-sided, and then does what’s called a “saddle-stitch” down the middle!

If you take the PDF docs to any printer, they should be able to print them like mine. Remember to bring your usage license (at the front of the workbook!) so they know it’s OK for you to print one single copy for your personal use.
Yes – you can print the workbooks as many times as you want for YOUR own personal use. You cannot print the workbooks for other people.
