I get requests for card tutorials all the time.
I realized I haven’t done a Halloween card before, so here you go!

What you need to know…
Gather up your supplies before you get started.
I recommend water-based markers, like Tombow Dual Brush Pens, because you can use water to manipulate them.
I wanted very muted, pastel colors, but feel free to pick whatever colours you prefer!

Let’s Get Started!
I freehanded everything in my design but feel free to sketch it out in advance if that makes you more comfortable.
Step #1: Draw your ghosts!
Using your water-based markers, draw your first ghost. Add as much ink as you want.
Then, using water and a brush, pull in the ink from your marker – it will look like watercolour paint.

Repeat this process until your card is full of ghosts!

Step #2: Let your card dry!
You’re going to want to add some more details, but be sure your card is fully dry first.

Step #3: Add faces to your ghosts.
Eyes only, smiles, surprised faces – this is totally up to you.

Optional Step: Fold your card.
If you plan to use this as a postcard, print, etc., no need to fold.

Step #4: Add your greeting.
I’m always up for a pun, so I chose “Hey Boo” for my card. You can write whatever you prefer.
I used block lettering for “hey” and calligraphy for “boo.”

Optional Step: Add an offset outline to your ghosts.
I always love an offset outline, but this is totally optional.

That’s a Wrap!
I LOVE how this turned out with the offset outline. Which do you prefer – with or without?

And finally, your dad joke…
Where do ghosts buy their food?
At the ghost-ery store.
